the instrumental at 1:40 in ‘ the muse’, the only song on the record that she did not engineer and produce herself, is one of my favorite moments of the whole record.īut as always, there’s something about Elizabeth singing with just her piano that speaks to me.

‘ thirsty’ is an instant E&C classic, with its jazzy sass, snaps and claps, and witty lyrics. I’ve always loved Elizabeth’s ability to pull off the atypical (I think one time she began a set at Rockwood with ‘ Apathy’, one of her most somber songs that demands your focus and attention, and it was the greatest thing). ‘ birds & the bees’ immediately sets the mood for the record it is sad and dark and awakening. The whole album feels like a fluid story, while also telling unique narratives with each song-a recipe for albums that really stick with you. This ‘solitary’ record felt like she was singing directly to me in my living room. ‘ sincerely, e’ sits in a different place than her previous record ( Keepsake, 2017) many of these songs were written alone and self-recorded in Elizabeth’s living room. As a fan of Elizabeth for the past decade and someone who has attended a handful of her shows in NYC, I was highly anticipating this album release.

Ziman has performed extensively in New York City and Boston (The Knitting Factory, The Living Room, Rockwood Music Hall, The Cutting Room, The Middle East, T.T. Comprised of Elizabeth Ziman (vocals, keys), Danny Molad (drums), and Peter Lalish (guitar), Elizabeth and the Catapult came into existence in 2004. Ziman has also performed with Enya, singing with her on Regis and Kelly as well as the CBS Morning Show. with soul queen Patti Austin, who kicked off her tour at Lincoln Center in 2003. From two years, she toured across the U.S. Elizabeth received the ASCAP Leiber and Stoller award in 2001 for her song “Like Water is to Sand”. Her “Baroque” pop songs have frequently been compared to those of Rufus Wainright, Fiona Apple and Laura Nyro. With Debussy and Bach on her left and the Beatles just to her right, Elizabeth quickly developed a sound all her own. A born romantic, Ziman transformed the music of Debussy, molding it to the driving rhythms of the washer and dryer. Ziman wrote her first song at age six, banging out melodies on an old upright in a Greenwich Village laundry room.
